
Feelings of gratitude connect you to what is most important in your life – otherwise known as your VALUES. It is a feeling of recognition that something has been achieved, learned or overcome.
When faced with challenges, it is difficult to naturally feel the emotions of gratitude. This is where the practice of daily gratitude can be helpful.
When you prime your senses to look out for what is going well rather than all that is wrong with the world, you start to see small gifts that you can be grateful for. When you can appreciate the small things, the big things take care of themselves. The more you practice any skill, including gratitude, the better you get at it.

Each time you rehearse fear, you create an impression on your brain, body and relationships.
Practice gratitude and love over fear and judgement.
Taking time to tell others that you appreciate them will create massive ripples of positive energy that you may never see the full effect of.
Showing others that you genuinely acknowledge and are thankful for their existence in your world can be simple and rewarding. A kind smile, a caring look, words of appreciation, compassionate actions or loving thoughts that honour those who could never be repaid.
Simply set a morning intention to practice grateful thoughts, words and actions and see how your day unfolds. Add your thanks to a board on your wall or your journal, and review your mood, connections and energy levels after a few weeks.

A few years ago, I used to carry around a simple river rock in my pocket. The purpose of this was to remind me to notice something that I was thankful for each time my hand happened upon the rock. I carried it for about a year and then set it on my bedside table so that each morning when I opened my eyes, I would remember to start my day with an attitude of gratitude. Like attracts like. This practice transformed my mind and my life. I don’t have the original rock any more. A dear friend gifted me a beautiful gratitude rock hand-painted by an Aboriginal artist that I treasure. However, I was forever shaped by that daily immersion.
These days, I can easily access the emotion of gratitude at any given moment – even in the face of a challenge. In fact, challenging moments no longer hold as much power over me as they used to.
