“Somehow I can’t believe there are any heights that can’t be scaled by a man who knows the secret of making dreams come true. This special secret, it seems to me, can be summarized in four C’s. They are Curiosity, Confidence, Courage, and Constancy and the greatest of these is Confidence. When you believe a thing, believe it all the way, implicitly and unquestionably.”
Walt Disney, Visionary
Walt Disney was an exemplary visionary whose joyful efforts to create a world of wonder will leave a legacy of inspiration for us all. He was a dreamer who knew how to have his head in the clouds and two feet firmly on the Earth. Walt’s secret to materialising his dreams was not lost on a daydreamer like me. That is a superpower that I want to develop throughout my time here in this life.
Mapping out your long-term vision is the first step to creating the future that you desire, but if you stop here, you may become disheartened by the lack of momentum in your life. Utilising your vision to create medium and short-term goals with easy, actionable steps will keep you on track while you relish the small wins along the way.
Now is the time to map out the next 12 months with the highlights you will manifest. This is your chance to be bold and courageous and dream big. Your subconscious mind thinks in pictures, feelings and senses, so enjoy some time seeking images from magazines, books, online or drawn from your imagination that speak to your soul’s vision for you.
Make yourself a vision board, otherwise known as a treasure map, that will re-inspire you each morning. If you want to touch your dreams, you have to make your daily habits align with your new self. Making it visible brings your subconscious dreams into your conscious reality.

The more you visualise and hold in your mind what you want, the more your brain becomes aware of opportunities for you to achieve it. You will begin to filter out the information that is not relevant to your purpose and notice more of what matters. The act of envisioning and becoming the conductor of your best life will shape your neural pathways moment by moment. You are actively rewiring your brain to focus on and achieve your dreams.
Create your vision board
Step 1 – Gather your dreams and goals
Figure out what you really want – reflect on your guided journal so far to guide your search for images and words that align with your dreams and goals.
Some extra techniques to foster ideas and gain mental clarity:
- Meditation
- Use music to inspire you
- Organise a group of friends or work through ideas with a partner
- Ask your counsellor or mentor to guide you through this process
- Exercise – a 20-minute walk to release endorphins and boost brain activity
- Journal Writing – Free-hand journal writing is powerful
- Unplug from technology and allow creativity to flow
- Find a vision board workshop running in your local community, or better yet, set one up yourself!
Step 2 – Find inspiration
Consider different areas of life such as health, family, relationships, career, mind, emotions, and soul desires. Use a piece of paper to gather and map out your priorities for the next 12 months. Find images in magazines or online that show how you want to feel and look, what you want to do and how you want to be. Gather photos of yourself and the important people in your life. Source your guiding words for the year and your favourite quotes and affirmations.
Step 3 – Personalise with Images, words, and affirmations
Take these inspiring images, photos and words, and pin or paste them creatively onto your Vision Board. Add your own handwritten words or symbols around the images.
Write in bold, “This or something better, now manifests for the highest good of all”
Display your masterpiece somewhere that you will see every day to keep your dreams at the top of your mind.
Step 4 – Boost your vision board
Music has the power to instantly motivate, excite, and shift your mindset. Create a playlist with songs that remind you about your dreams. Seek podcasts, books, and quotations to motivate you and listen to them regularly. ?Keep your vision alive by adding to your board or refresh it completely as you evolve.

Vision Statement
A vision statement is a sentence or short paragraph that encompasses your overarching dream, your long-term goal, and the direction that you are heading. Businesses create vision statements at the foundation phase of their development to give clarity to their objectives, i.e., where they are heading. A company’s vision must align with its mission, strategic planning, culture, and core values. Its purpose is to guide the planning process.
- Dream big and keep it broad so that it captures your

Declare here how you see your future self, as if it were true now, in bold and brave words.
Here are some vision statements from well-known brands to help you get a sense of how to word your own. Yours can be longer than the examples below, but it should be something that you can commit to memory and say to yourself to keep you on track.

Mission Statement
A mission statement is an action-based description of how you will be of service in your life, how you show up in the world, and the legacy you want to leave. Just like a vision statement, it must align with your core values. It provides clarity on who you are, what you stand for and how you do you.

- Be clear so that you can see yourself doing the action.

— Walt Disney, Visionary
Staying on track
Over the next 12 months, it is important to set up small, actionable steps that keep you moving towards the dreams you have envisioned in your journal. These are the goals that align with your core values.
A ship needs to be steered by a mindful and attentive captain and crew, so too, your attention to the plans you have mapped here, plus some accountability, will help them to materialise.
You may want to tell some of your trusted life crew members of your plans to keep you accountable. And you never know who they might know that can help you along the way!
You may start to notice strange synchronicities happening – that is, people will say things that you need to hear at exactly the right time or others come into your life with similar dreams that inspire you. You may be surprised that new opportunities will spontaneously arise and doors will open for you. Don’t be afraid to grasp the opportunity and work out the details later!
Where attention goes, energy flows.
Bring your attention back at the beginning and at the end of each month. Fill in your calendar with events and important information that has happened or is coming up.
How to use the calendar:
- Write three goals for the month that are in line with your guiding words and dreams.
- Fill in the calendar with actionable steps and activities that align with your journey’s vision.
- Update it as the month progresses with new action steps, events, and any synchronicities that surprise you.
- Write your reflective thoughts and feelings about what you have learned or experienced at the end of each month.
Make a commitment to yourself to keep on track with your vision and mission. You have a lot to contribute!
